Saturday 1 February - 12 Foot Machete:-Fresh out of Barrow and straight up the stairs for the very finest in Rock and Roll from 12 Foot Machete. Who may be frisked on their way in by our stringent door staff. Support is promised, but no names have been put forward as yet. Isn't it exciting? Friday 7 February - The Plastic Noons & The Wisemen & Patrick Garrigan:- Sing merrily and go squat with thy ass for a night of acoustical music from three equally idiosyncratic acts: The Plastic Noons, the Nom De Plume of Richard Chamberlain, who will be treating you to the first fruits of his adventures into non-pluggery and pickery; the first gig in ages from the WIsemen, Richard Turner & Scott Morley's multi-strung musical monster; and Patrick Garrigan playing a solo set covering both his own songs and his obsession with owning a large ceramic Gorilla. Or something. Saturday 8 February - Irregardless: First gig not covered by the "Jazz Club"'s banner for Sam Dale, Steve Lewis & Ben McCabe, playing an innovative and eclectic mix of almost-improvised songs and instrumentals. And it's on a Saturday night, so none of you have an excuse for not coming this time. Friday 14 February - St Valentine's Day Disco:- A chance for the closet romantic in your life to dance away the wee small hours with total immunity (closet not provided). Your MC Andrew Lockley leads you (on) tenderly to a selection of "tunes to smooch or break up to". Go on, you sourpuss. No violin cases allowed tonight, I'm afraid. Mr Capone's orders. Friday 21 February - Spotlight Club:- The Spotlight chap are always extremely consciencious about sending us explicit listings for their hugely successful once-a-month cabarets. Come back nearer the time and see if I've been anywhere near as consciencious about putting them up. Saturday 22 February - Collectable Jennifers: Pushing back the limits of improvised music and lyrics, get down, get sideways and be confused by Ver 'Fers tonight as they bend your mind in to shapes previously only seen by chihuahuas. Saturday 28 February - The Hyperjax & The Three
Ages of Elvis: Only the very finest of Prestonian
rock for Sir tonight as the Hyperjax give it to you straight and
filthy for very first time. In their own words, "The Hyperjax
refuse to be called either "retro", "psychobilly"
or any other label that comes easily to hand. They call their
music NEW RAGE ROCKABILLY, and that goes some way to describing
its hard-edged freshness." Extra value for your quiddage tonight comes in the form of support from the widely enjoyed Three Ages of Elvis. They're very good and you'll like them, I think. They don't play any Elvis, mind, but to be fair, they probably aren't the same age either. As each other. Actually, they're probably not the same age as Elvis come to that. |
